Home owners are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying a small
wall safe. They range from about $80 upwards depending on you are looking for a basic lock box, a hidden
wall safe disguised as an electrical socket, one mounted between the studs, a biometric model
(fingerprint), or a small wall safe that opens with a key or combination lock.
Here are some examples of popular small wall safes on the market:
The Protex Electronic has an electronic keypad for easy
programming, code (1-6 digits).
Amsec One Hour Fire Protected Wall Safe is a popular choice as it
offers both fire and burglary protection. This Amsec safe has an electronic lock programmable between
3-15 digits.
The Amsec has a 5/8" thick door and two 1 1/4" rectangular steel
deadbolts to prevent door removal during a forced entry attempt. This small wall safe has a one hour fire
rating so the inside temperature never exceeded 350 degrees.
Another popular model is the Buddy Key Lock (Tubular Key). This
Buddy Safe features double reinforced heavy 16 gauge steel door with a recessed dead bolt Key
lock.
It has 500 cubic inches of storage space provides plenty of room
for cash, jewelry and other valuables. The Buddy weighs just
9 Lbs.

million access codes user codes available.
The Honeywell has a digital electronic locking system and
re-programmable combination. This model is designed to fit in standard wall construction with 2"x4"
studs 16" on center or expands to accommodate 2" x 6" studs. This Honeywell model has dual live locking
bolts and even has an Interior light.
Small wall safes are a good idea because burglars like to be in
and out quickly. Most burglars don't have the time, knowledge or equipment to open a wall
safe.
When buying a home safe also check the fire rating. Many are
constructed to withstand temperatures up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit (1095°C) for 1
hour.
Think carefully about
where you are going to hide the device. It will need to be installed in a wall between studs. It is best
to then conceal it behind a picture or curtain so it becomes hidden from prying eyes and burglars.
Don’t tell everyone you have a safe as they will immediately start to think you store cash or valuables
in your home. That is asking for trouble, because you don’t know who knows
who.
It often pays to spend a small amount more to get a better
quality wall safe rather than buying the cheapest. Brands like Honeywell, Amsec, Chubb and Protex have a strong
reputation. There will be a home security safe in nearly every price bracket. Start by deciding your budget and
then search for the level of security to meet your needs. If you are storing the crown jewels then you would be
best advised to spend thousands of dollars, but if you are simply buying one for your home then a few hundred
dollars should get you a good quality in wall safe.
